Organisation

From an organizational perspective, the Seismic Application falls under the Geophysics Application of LOFAR. (The Infrasound Application is the other application.) The Geophysics Application is part of the whole LOFAR program, and is equivalent to the Astronomical Application. The Seismic Application is carried out by three partners:

  • Delft University of Technology;
  • TNO Built Environment and Geosciences – Geological Survey of the Netherlands (TNO);
  • Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).

LOFAR started as a new and innovative effort to force a breakthrough in sensitivity for astronomical observations at radio-frequencies below 250 MHz.
