A long baseline science case for LOFAR
A long baseline science case for LOFAR LOFAR
is to exceed its current 100 km maximal baselines which will be
largely thanks to other European countries namely: Germany, Great
Britain, France, Italy, Sweden and Poland. These countries' active
radio astronomy communities have shown a lot of enthusiasm and initiative
to extend LOFAR beyond its planned baselines.
A first step towards a LOFAR long baseline
science case was taken by organising a workshop bringing
all LOFAR interested countries together to explore the exciting science
which can be done with an extended LOFAR. This workshop was organised
by ASTRON and took place on May 15 and 16, 2006, at ASTRON.
The scientific value of en extended LOFAR
was discussed extensively at this workshop. A lot of interesting
scientific topics
were identified. It was decided that all contributions will be formulated
into one to two page documents. The submission deadline
for these contributions is the 30th of June 2006. A template
file for your contribution can be downloaded here.
